Overview

Full day cycling activity including transport from and return to central Madrid.
Choice of GPS assisted routes including a section of the easy standard Royal Canal of Jarama between Rivas and Aranjuez with the option to cycle any part of the 50km traffic-free route.
Following the ride, a visit to one of the bodegas (wineries) in the Tajuña river valley and then lunch in the town plaza of Chinchon.
Use of bike, helmet and bidon as well as refreshments and on-route / mechanical support included.

Itinerary

Choose between cycling between Chinchon and Aranjuez, approximately 35km or hike around both cities for unique views.

Chinchón is a captivating town that offers a unique blend of history, culture, and charm. The Plaza Mayor is the heart of Chinchón and is renowned for its unusual circular shape, lined with historic buildings and arcaded balconies and has served as a marketplace, a bullring, and a venue for theatrical performances and celebrations. Aranjuez is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unique cultural landscape.

Chinchón is famous for its anise liqueur, a strong and aromatic drink that’s a local specialty. Celebrate the local produce in Aranjuez with the annual Strawberry Festival, where you can enjoy fresh strawberries and other delicacies.

Visit the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, Tagus River, Chinchón’s medieval castle, the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, narrow cobblestone streets lined with traditional houses.

It can get quite hilly around Toledo so if cycling, we definitely suggest a certain level of bike fitness. For those opting to just walk around, you will also be walking up and down hills so prepare appropriately.

We will have some water available but there are also plenty of stores where you can buy water or other drinks.

The famous painter El Greco spent much of his life in Toledo, and the city is home to many of his masterpieces. Toledo has been featured in works of literature, including Cervantes’ “Don Quixote.” Toledo embraces its connection to Don Quixote. You can find statues of the knight and his squire Sancho Panza, and the city is a stop on the “Route of Don Quixote,” a tourist trail that traces the footsteps of the fictional character through La Mancha.

Itinerary

Enjoy the best views of the city from outside as you make your way around the outskirts of the city. Take a cafe break and enjoy the vista before cycling through parts of the city and back to the van.

Traverse the cobblestone streets and wind through narrow, almost labyrinthine alleys. It’s a bit of a workout with all the inclines, but the charm is undeniable. Take in the scenery before popping into the many stores. Toledo is known for their steel so swords and knives are everywhere. There are plenty of other stores to visit for their famous Marzipan, historical items, ceramics and leather goods amongst many others.

While Marzipan is the most famous dish, other delicacies include carcamusas (a hearty stew), Perdiz a la Toledana (Partridge Toledan Style) and Queso Manchego (the cheese of the region).

There is no shortage of things to see in Toledo. This ranges from Toledo Cathedral to Alcázar of Toledo, the Synagogue of El Tránsito and Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes. Or just hang around the Plaza de Zocodover and watch the people.

Itinerary

Segovia offers a compact walking experience especially within the medieval walls and gates. Walk along the well-preserved city walls and pass through historic gates like the Puerta de San Andrés, offering glimpses into Segovia’s past.

Considered the top tourist attraction in the area, the aqueduct dates back to the 1st or 2nd Century A.D. It’s a testament to Roman ingenuity and is now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Start at Plaza del Azoguejo and follow!

This fairytale castle, perched on a rocky outcrop, is said to have inspired Disney’s Cinderella Castle.

A visit to Segovia is not complete without sampling the famous Cochinillo Asado or Suckling Pig. We’ll grab an outside table, a wine and enjoy 3 courses while watching the world go by in this ancient setting.

While the city does have some hills, they are mostly quite slight and given how compact the city is within its walls it’s not an overly strenuous walk.

Segovia is a foodie’s place! There are plenty of alternatives if you’re not into the suckling pig.

Segovia is filled with stores for gifts of all types. Typically the city os famous for its ceramics and textiles but you’ll also be able to buy things from suits of armour and swords to prints, magnets and keychains at many shops.
