    Overview

    • Full day cycling activity including transport from and return to central Madrid.
    • Choice of GPS assisted routes including a section of the easy standard Royal Canal of Jarama between Rivas and Aranjuez with the option to cycle any part of the 50km traffic-free route.
    • Following the ride, a visit to one of the bodegas (wineries) in the Tajuña river valley and then lunch in the town plaza of Chinchon.
    • Use of bike, helmet and bidon as well as refreshments and on-route / mechanical support included.

    Itinerary

    Choose between cycling between Chinchon and Aranjuez, approximately 35km or hike around both cities for unique views.

    Chinchón is a captivating town that offers a unique blend of history, culture, and charm. The Plaza Mayor is the heart of Chinchón and is renowned for its unusual circular shape, lined with historic buildings and arcaded balconies and has served as a marketplace, a bullring, and a venue for theatrical performances and celebrations. Aranjuez is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unique cultural landscape.

    Chinchón is famous for its anise liqueur, a strong and aromatic drink that’s a local specialty. Celebrate the local produce in Aranjuez with the annual Strawberry Festival, where you can enjoy fresh strawberries and other delicacies.

    Visit the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, Tagus River, Chinchón’s medieval castle, the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, narrow cobblestone streets lined with traditional houses.

    It can get quite hilly around Toledo so if cycling, we definitely suggest a certain level of bike fitness. For those opting to just walk around, you will also be walking up and down hills so prepare appropriately.

    We will have some water available but there are also plenty of stores where you can buy water or other drinks.

    The famous painter El Greco spent much of his life in Toledo, and the city is home to many of his masterpieces. Toledo has been featured in works of literature, including Cervantes’ “Don Quixote.” Toledo embraces its connection to Don Quixote. You can find statues of the knight and his squire Sancho Panza, and the city is a stop on the “Route of Don Quixote,” a tourist trail that traces the footsteps of the fictional character through La Mancha.
